The Count Down Begins

Today I am preparing for the trip.  All clothes are laid out and I'm doing a trial packing to see how I can fit all bike gear plus clothes into one duffle bag.  Bike clothes get priority over street clothes, so I'll likely wear the same clothes for two months.  I also am testing out the technology for staying in touch and uploading photos....too many options and too many devices to keep powered up. I need to scale back.

Cross Country Challenge

After 39 years working in higher education, 23 of which were at the University of Michigan and the last seven as the Chief Information Officer, last month I retired to pursue new adventures.  I'm launching into retirement by pursuing one of my life long dreams, riding my bike across the US.

I ride with the Ann Arbor club called Power Cycling, coached by Marc Mueller and Louis Cayedito, and I thank them for helping me prepare for the trip. I also thank Scott Guthrie for prepping my bike, packing and shipping it.  And thanks to Brian at Performance Cycle Ann Arbor for all the help, education and support.  I start riding on June 5 from San Francisco, CA and will finish in Portsmouth, NH on July 26.  I will post about my final weeks of preparation and the ride here.
